Looking after you candle is pretty straightforward, however, we want you to get the most from your purchase and to know what to expect after you light it for the first time. These steps should help.
Positioning - Ensure your candle is away from drafts, on a stable heat resistant surface, away from flammable material and out of reach of children and pets.
Light your candle - There’s no need to trim your wick before your first burn. A longer wick at this initial stage is useful to provide the heat necessary to create a full wax pool.
Let it burn - When first lighting your candle make sure you allow it to burn for 3 hours, or until your candle develops a wax pool that extends to the full circumference of your vessel, which will help avoid tunnelling.
Trim the wick - Please be gentle with the wick after you have burned it. It will be very fragile. When you have finished burning your candle, ensure it's free of anything that isn’t supposed to be there and only trim (don’t pinch) the wick if necessary. If there is no carbon or soot build up on the wick, leave it alone. DO NOT trim the wick any shorter than ½ an inch as this could effect the way your candle burns. When it comes to relighting remember to be very, very gentle and use a natural flame.
When to say goodbye - Discontinue the use of your candle when ¾ of a cm of wax remains at the bottom of the container. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface or container itself. The container can get hot on the bottom as the flame nears the bottom and most of the wax has been consumed.
For safety’s sake
Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface, well away from drafts, other heat sources, and anything flammable. Make sure burning candles are out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
